BIOGRAFIJA

Anabel Zanze was born in 1971 in Dubrovnik, where she attended maths and science high school. She took her degree in the graphic art section of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1996. She lives in Zagreb. She is a member of the artists’ associations HDLU and HZSU.
She exhibits in solo or collective shows in Croatian museums and galleries, as well as abroad, and her works are in the collections or permanent displays of several Croatian museum and gallery institutions, as well as private and corporate collections in Croatia and abroad.

In 1996, she started making letter collages, and then pictures, on which she wrote out strings of letters, words and sentences, inventing new visual contents with references to the historical avant-gardes, to post avant-garde artists and contemporaries. In recent times there has been a more pronounced engagement with social matters in her works.

In 2017, she received the 2nd Purchase Prize of Rovinj Municipal Museum for works at the exhibition Rovinj Art Colony 2017 and Commendation of Dubrovnik Museum of Modern Art “for her contribution to the enrichment of the Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art”.

She has published essays about her own work in the book Pogled iznutra. Čitati s razumijevanjem / View from Inside. Close Reading (Zagreb, 2017).
