Brushstroke, with its irrevocability, has called a halt to time. Excluding subsequent corrections or layers, the picture has been brought to a state of spare fulfillment. With reduction to the originally pure, with the brevity of Dufy, the minimalism of Klee, the anarchism of Paolozzi, the roughness and “the just formed shape” of Dubuffet, with the “child’s drawing” of Appel and the continual mystic pattern of the Zen of Tobey, Anabel Zanze has created a primary, an elementary painting. (…) The subtle reduction of expressive resources comes close to the border of the intuitive, while the rapidity of the brushstroke provokes a delicate dynamic of line. Stemming from the parsimonious and spontaneous animation there is a fluidity of stroke, a refinement of idiom, a reflexive field of the creative unconsciousness. The dispensing with quantity, the absence of reproduction, of copying or of imitation mould the rhythmical sequence, create a semantics of stroke, in which the field of meaning of minimalist taste and a sense of enigma develops a complex structure for the expression of a personal creativity.
